What people want to know before they try Da.
Is the app available in English?
Not yet. Da. is currently available in German only – the app, its notifications and its help pages.
Isn’t that a lot of effort every day?
One tap on “Ich bin da” is enough – in the app or from the widget on your home or lock screen. You decide when and how often you check in.
What happens if I forget?
Da. reminds you before your deadline – two hours ahead with 24 hours. If the deadline passes, Da. alerts your watchers in up to four steps – with intervals of 10 hours or more after 30 minutes, then after 1, 2 and 4 hours; with shorter custom intervals, at shorter gaps. Check in at any point and the steps stop at once, and they get an all-clear.
How do I set when I check in by?
You choose an interval – twice a day, once a day or every two days – and, with 12 and 24 hours, a check-in time. After that, every check-in starts your interval again. With Plus you can choose your own interval from 30 minutes to 72 hours.
What if I have no signal?
Your check-in is saved on your iPhone and sent as soon as you’re back online; the time of your tap counts. If it only arrives after the deadline, your watchers may already have been notified – its arrival ends that and they get an all-clear. Before a longer time without signal, it’s best to switch on the pause.
Does my watcher need the app?
Yes. Your watchers need Da. on an iPhone, an account and notifications switched on. That’s the only way the alerts reach them.
Where is my data stored?
App data is stored in Frankfurt am Main (Supabase, AWS region eu-central-1). Notifications go through Expo’s push service to Apple. You can delete your account in the app; your profile, check-ins and connections are removed in one step.
Is this only for older people?
No. Da. is for anyone who lives alone – students, professionals on the road, people after a move or a break-up, and parents whose children live far away.
Does Da. replace an emergency alarm?
No. Da. is not an emergency service and does not detect falls or medical emergencies. Da. lets the people you trust know when your check-in doesn’t come. In an acute emergency, call 112.
Can I use Da. for free?
Yes. Free never expires and includes one watcher. You can add Plus or Family at any time.
